Grit Girls Basketball Practice Photography in New York
I had the opportunity to photograph the GRIT U17 and U16 girls basketball teams in Brooklyn at the Post BK, in Greenpoint.
We wanted to encapsulate a broader variation of content they can use on their website and social channels, so I choose to shoot them at practice because it gives the girls more opportunity to showcase their talents than shooting a game without interrupting the usual flow. These future D1 and WNBA Womens hopefuls are so talented, — powerful, technical and hungry.
Alan and Victoria Fleisher run a great program called New York Grit . It was really loved working with the whole team.
Location: The Post BK, 3 Knickerbocker St., Brooklyn — a gritty indoor gym with 4 courts available to rent for basketball and volleyball. It has black floors and dark curtains so for photography it's a little darker than most gyms because you don't get the light bounce off the floor, walls, curtains and ceiling, so the contrast is high from the Fluorescent lights. It has a cool vibe.
Shot on: Canon R5 with a mix of high-speed prime lenses for crisp images in an indoor dark environment.
